Then you should definitely check out The Red Apron at 564 Gladstone Avenue in Ottawa, or at www.redapron.ca. It has become my go-to-shop for lots of goodies, both for everyday and for when company comes-a-calling.
The Red Apron was started a couple of years ago by two moms, Joanne Laverty and Jennifer Heagle, who met at their children’s sports activities. They realized that there were many busy families who didn’t always have time to cook but wanted healthy and tasty options. It helped that one of them was a Cordon Bleu trained chef! They have since committed themselves to getting people “back to the table” eating healthful, delicious food.
The core business is prepared meals made from locally sourced ingredients, but they have since expanded into making and carrying many unique food products such as their own delicious spiced almonds, pumpkin spice popcorn, jams and sauces, baked goods and a take-out lunch bar. They are the only ones in the city to carry Lov tea, an organic tea from Paris, and Selsi pink salt from Saskatchewan. They carry the amazing bread by Art-Is-In and True Loaf and lots of homemade baked goods. I can attest, being a bit of a cinnamon bun connoisseur, that they make the absolute best ones in the city.
I picked up a few things to make a cheese tray for a little get together I am hosting this week. As you can see, I have some yummy charcuterie from Seed and Sausage, two locally made cheeses and some unique crackers and bread sticks. I’ve also put in an order for their tortiere which they are baking frequently this month. It will be helpful to have on hand for unexpected visitors.
For the holidays they will also put together custom gift baskets from their stock gourmet items. This would make a great gift for that hard to buy for person on your list, or just for someone who appreciates quality food. I hope I am on your list! Hint, Hint!
Nicole says, “As a busy mom of two, I can say thank you to these lovely ladies for filling in and making us look fabulous when time isn’t on our side. Those cinnamon buns look sinful…yum!”
Lisa says, “Wow, I have to check out this place. Everything looks yummy and tea from Paris and cinnamon buns, I’m in.”
