One unforgettable evening

What happens when the TBBs get wind of an event involving two wine celebrities at a local high end watering hole?  Well I think you can guess … One unforgettable evening!!!

On Monday, September 17th five of the TBBs donned their ‘hittin’ the town’ duds and  joined  fellow wine lovers at Restaurant Eighteen in Ottawa’s Byward Market to share wine and stories with Sommelier Natalie MacLean and special guest Wolf Blass – the man himself.

After a delicious glass of bubbly and noshing on delicious appies we sampled five distinct Wolf Blass wines while being entertained by a very energetic and funny “Wolfie”.

Our flight for the wine tastin

We tried a 2011 Gold Label Riesling, a 2010 Yellow Label Pinot Noir, 2008 Grey Label Barossa Shiraz, an 09 Grey Label Cabarnet Shiraz and finally a 2007 Black Label Cabernet Shiraz Malbec.

I liked them all (quelle surprise!) but my absolute favourite, with a lovely caramel finish was the 2010 Yellow Label Pinot Noir — which I found yesterday at the LCBO – WOO HOO!!!

After all our sniffing, swishing and tasting, we were fortunate enough to come away with a signed copy of Natalie’s latest book –Unquenchable : A Tipsy Quest for the World’s Best Bargain Wines.

Check out Natalie MacLean’s account of the event here, and be sure to watch this video.  We aren’t kidding about Wolfie (as we TBBs like to call him) being an entertainer!

Cheers …. Donna
