Scone Heaven at The Scone Witch!

My heart skipped a beat when I saw that The Scone Witch had closed its doors on Albert St.  Now where could I go for the best scones in Ottawa, if not the country?  When I saw that they have a new address at 150 Elgin (entrance on Gloucester St.) I started to breathe again!

Sconewitch

If you have never eaten at Sconewitch you don’t know what you are missing. Their light and flaky scones come in many flavours, both sweet and savoury. My personal favourite is ginger currant with its chunks of candied ginger.  It is fabulous on its own, and even better with the delicious Moss Berry Farm jam that they sell. A close second would have to be the lemon poppyseed!

The Scone Witch offers much more than just scones. They have sconewitches and mealwitches which are delicious sandwiches on scones instead of bread. The savoury scones are better for these. On weekends they have brunch with eggs, assorted meats, fresh fruit and, of course, scones. A great tip is that you can buy the scones uncooked and frozen ensuring that you have fresh, hot scones at home when the need  urge arises!

The new decor, while a funky, industrial style, isn’t quite as character-filled as the old house they inhabited on Albert. But, they have gained space for a few more tables and a larger working and display space. A fair trade off I suppose! They are also now more centrally located in downtown Ottawa. They  have a second location on Beechwood in New Edinburgh.

So when you are out and about in downtown Ottawa and looking for a place to grab a quick meal or snack during the day, try out The Scone Witch. Did I mention that they also make great coffee and tea to go with those scones?

I love any business that does something with full intention. If you’re good at making scones, why not build a business around it?! I love that. If I”m ever in Ottawa I’ll be adding it to my places to see:)

Well it just so happens that I’ll be heading to BConnected in Ottawa in April! I guess I will have to add The Scone Witch to the list of places to go while I’m there! Tea, you say? Put on the kettle! And something about that chalkboard makes me feel right at home…

Great post. Can’t wait to check the place out! 😉

Scones are one of my favorite things! My heart would have skipped a beat too, if I thought the doors were closed for good! I’ll live vicariously and wish for a ginger current scone!! They sound delish!
