There’s A New Shop In Town……boogie + birdie

I was really disappointed when my favourite clothing shop, Vanilla, closed its doors after 40 years. But my disappointment didn’t last long when I discovered a fabulous, eclectic shop had taken its place.

Boogie and Birdie

boogie + birdie is a thoughtfully curated collection of embellishments for your home and life. It’s a sister shop of Mags & Fags located at 256 Elgin Street in Ottawa, and run by two very creative women. It is full of beautiful, original items, many of them local, or at least Canadian. The items are beautifully displayed on furniture sourced at another TBB favourite shop, the Tin Barn Market in Almonte. The soap below is made on Somerset Street in Ottawa and the yummy KoKo chocolates are also local.boogie and birdie soap

They have some unique, handmade jewellery for both men and women. I think the poster map of Ottawa neighbourhoods looks great in an IKEA ready made frame. The map was designed by a fellow who lives a few blocks from the shop! How much more local can you get?

They stock a little bit of almost anything! The kitchen area has a tree of beautiful coloured teapots and lots of gourmet teas and treats. Another table holds some cosy knitted scarves, pillows made in Montreal and hot water bottle covers. Perfect for our Ottawa winters.

They stock a fun selection of knobs to change up your dressers or cupboards and some gorgeous decorative cedar art blocks that are handcrafted in Salt Spring Island, BC. I know a few people who would beeline to the children’s section to shop for their favourite little one.

I especially love the yarn wrapped reindeer peeking out from the table of chocolates. Oh how I wish he was condo friendly! A cupboard full of cubby holes contains all kind of mugs, creamers and other do-dads.

I have a feeling this is going to become one of my go to shops when I am looking for something a little different for myself, a client or a gift for someone special.

And P.S. Designing minds sometimes think alike, Newberry|Sykes also just did a post on this very store. Click here to read Meredith’s review.

Ah Mary Anne! I knew we’d both be in love with this store. It’s great that Elgin Street has so many unique, small and successful businesses. Weren’t those knobs amazing?! I haven’t gone back for some yet, but they’re on my list for my kitchen too. Thanks for sharing your picks!

It is such a fun little shop! Funny how we both gravitated right to it! Yes, I love the knobs too, but have yet to think of a place to use them!

Thanks for sharing our blog post ladies! Maybe we shouldn’t tell too many people about Boogie + Birdie or there won’t be anything left LOL!
